Minnesota Vikings release Pro Bowl RB Dalvin Cook after six seasons

June 8th, 2023

Dalvin Cook's time in Minnesota is over. After six seasons, the Vikings decided to release the four-time Pro Bowler. While there were constant talks about possible trades with the running back, no deal materialized, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Now that Dalvin Cook will become a free agent, several teams are expected to make a move for him. Rumors indicated that the Miami Dolphins will be among the teams most interested in him. Also, the RB expressed to his close ones his desire to maybe join Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.

While on the next days different NFL teams will contact Dalvin Cook, the Minnesota Vikings already have a plan for the starting running back position: Alexander Mattison, who has taken that role when Cook faced injuries. It was also rumored that the Vikings will be interested on Ezekiel Elliott, but things just don't continue to point in that direction.

Dalvin Cook's numbers in Minnesota

The Minnesota Vikings selected Dalvin Cook in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He was the third most interesting RB prospect after Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffrey.

In six seasons with the Vikings, the running back rushed for 5,993 yards and scored 47 touchdowns. He also registered 1,794 receiving yards and five other receiving touchdowns. In 2022, Dalvin Cook signed his fourth straight season with over 1,000 rushing yards, numbers that led him to the four most recent Pro Bowl games.

With Minnesota he played three playoff games, in which he scored a couple of times.
