It is true that the Kansas City Chiefs are on a losing skid. Andy Reid's squad has lost two straight games, three of its past five, and its fortunate charm no longer appears to be working.
Taylor Swift was in the boxes at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday afternoon as her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, fell 17-20 to the Buffalo Bills, despite a contentious ruling that took away the Chiefs tight end's winning score.
Swift was also there in Kansas City's Week 13 loss to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.
The "Shake It Off" singer has attended six Kansas City matches since beginning her relationship with Kelce. The competitions saw four wins and two losses.
Swift would have a 0.667 winning percentage if she were a quarterback or head coach. The number is sufficient to have a winning season, but it may not be sufficient to make the postseason, especially with four weeks of activity remaining.
The Grammy winner's first four games were all triumphs for her favorite Kelce and the hosts led by Reid:
The first time she was seen in an Arrowhead suite was on September 24, when the Chiefs defeated the Chicago Bears 41-10, thanks to Travis Kelce's score. She flew to East Rutherford on October 2 to witness the Kansas City Chiefs defeat the New York Jets 23-20 at MetLife Stadium. Travis was out of luck at the time.
Swift witnessed the Chiefs defeat the Denver Broncos 19-8 at home on October 12, despite Kelce's lackluster effort. On October 22, they defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 31-17 at home, with Travis scoring a touchdown in honor of Taylor.
The enchantment appears to have worn off. Swift's next two boxing matches are the aforementioned setbacks, after his strong run. There have been several reports that the singer is a distraction for the squad, particularly Kelce, but this may not be the case.
Although no one has been able to pinpoint a precise explanation, Kansas City's receivers have not had their greatest season. Errors and errant passes are common among players who, while not being the greatest, used to execute their job.
Skyy Moore, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, and Rashee Rice all look to have "butter hands," as they have dropped passes from quarterback Patrick Mahomes that appeared to be safe receptions.
The defense has borne the team's weight, but the offense's lack of execution is beginning to bite.
Whether or not the so-called "Swift Effect" exists, Reid and Mahomes have their job cut out for them if they want to boost the club and return it to the postseason. A fresh arrival or a new Super Bowl win will be mentioned later.
