The Manchester Derby lived up to its billing once again as Manchester City came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory over their local rivals, Manchester United, at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Marcus Rashford silenced the home crowd with a stunning long-range strike in the early stages, but Phil Foden emerged as the local hero for City, inspiring their comeback with a brace of well-taken goals.
Rashford, seeking to silence his critics after facing midweek criticism, delivered the perfect response with a powerful shot from 25 yards out. The ball thundered into the net off the underside of the bar, leaving Ederson with no chance.
Despite falling behind, City dominated possession and peppered Andre Onana's goal with shots. Phil Foden nearly drew them level, but the England international was denied by a brilliant save from the Cameroonian goalkeeper.
Just before halftime, Kevin De Bruyne whipped in a perfect cross, finding Foden's head. The ball landed perfectly for Erling Haaland, but the prolific striker inexplicably missed the open goal from close range, leaving Rodri in disbelief.
As expected, City poured forward in the second half, heeding Pep Guardiola's instructions. Phil Foden stepped up in the 56th minute, curling a delightful shot past Onana from outside the box to equalize for the Citizens.
Guardiola introduced Julian Alvarez to bolster their attack, while Erik ten Hag replaced Rashford with Antony. The pressure finally paid off with ten minutes remaining. De Bruyne played in Alvarez, who cleverly cut back for Phil Foden, and the young midfielder slotted the ball past Onana to give City the lead.
Haaland added the finishing touch in stoppage time, tapping in from close range after Rodri dispossessed Sofyan Amrabat. The goal sealed the victory for City and extended United's winless streak in the derby.
Foden's two goals and overall performance earned him the man of the match award as City claimed all three points in a thrilling Manchester Derby.
