NBA forward Otto Porter Jr retires from basketball after an 11-year career. Porter Jr made the announcement on Monday after being waived by the Utah Jazz.
"For the past 11 years, I had the chance to live my lifelong dream of playing in the NBA," Porter Jr. said in a statement. "That dream was capped by winning an NBA Championship! Unfortunately, my body is not allowing me to play at the level that I expect of myself, and I have therefore decided to retire." Porter Jr stated.
Drafted third overall in 2013 by the Washington Wizards, Porter Jr. carved out a respectable career, averaging 10.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game throughout his time in the league. Injuries limited his playing time in recent seasons, but he managed to achieve a major milestone by winning a championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2022.
While Porter Jr.'s physical limitations forced his retirement, there's no doubt he leaves the game on a high note. He accomplished his dream of playing in the NBA and achieved the ultimate basketball glory by winning a championship. We can expect to see speculation about his future endeavors, but for now, basketball fans will remember him for his contributions on the court, particularly his role on the 2022 championship Warriors team.
