Even though he left the franchise more than twenty years ago, O'Neal's jersey retirement was a delightful surprise. Contemplating the importance of the moment, O'Neal expressed his surprise, stating, "I never anticipated this day would come."

As Shaq was seeing his jersey ascend, he was in teh presence of Magic co-founder Pat Williams, former GM John Gabriel, former head coach Brian Hill, and former players Jeff Turner, Anfernee Hardaway, Dennis Scott, and Nick Anderson. "You know, there's an old saying: never forget where you come from," he said.
