Kylian Mbappe was the main character of last night's Champions League, as PSG defeat Real Sociedad with the score 2-0. Rumours have been going around since 2 years for Mbapppe but he was last night focused and ready.
PSG had maintained an impressive unbeaten streak in all competitions, going 16 games without a loss since their 2-1 defeat to AC Milan in November. Real Sociedad's impressive unbeaten record in the group stage makes them a formidable opponent, thanks to their well-assembled team.
During the initial moments of the match, the Basque team displayed a strong offensive presence. Takefusa Kubo, the talented Japan international, came close to scoring twice in the first half, narrowly missing the target on both occasions.
Opportunities arose for both teams in the early stages, but unfortunately, Mbappe's attempt was thwarted by Alex Remiro, while Andre Silva came close to scoring at the opposite end.
Mikel Merino came agonizingly close to giving La Real the lead just before halftime, as his powerful strike from 25 yards out rattled against the crossbar. PSG breathed a sigh of relief, grateful that the scoreline remained level.
Both teams PSG and Real Sociedad evenly matched in the second half, the deciding factor would be a momentary loss of focus rather than a brilliant display of skill to break the tie. On the 58th minute, a perfectly placed corner from Ousmane Dembele was skillfully redirected by Marquinhos, and an unmarked Mbappe was able to easily tap the ball into the net at the far post.
The Frenchman has been in exceptional form, scoring an impressive 19 goals in his last 16 games. He came close to adding another goal to his tally with a powerful strike from outside the box, but Alex Remiro made a fantastic save to push it onto the post.
However, PSG demonstrated their prowess in the second half after a lackluster start and extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Bradley Barcola. Barcola skillfully evaded the ineffective Hamari Traore and confidently placed the ball past Remiro, providing some much-needed comfort for Luis Enrique's team going into the second leg at Reale Arena on March 5.
