Lionel Messi scored at the second part and Luis Suarez at extra time to secure a draw for Inter Miami against Nashville in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. The teams will face off on Wednesday night in Miami for the second game of the home-and-home series in the round of 16.
Suarez equalized the match by scoring in the fifth minute of extra time with a header from a cross by former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets. Messi scored his first CONCACAF goal for Inter Miami in the 52nd minute.
Jacob Shaffelburg netted a goal in the fourth minute, and then doubled the lead in the 47th minute after the break, putting Nashville ahead 2-0. Nashville believed they were up 3-1 after Shaq Moore's 83rd-minute goal, but it was disallowed for being offside.
That didn't last long as Messi finally did what everyone expected to happen at some point.
Luis Suarez located his ex-Barcelona colleague Lionel Messi just outside the box to tie the game for Inter Miami. In the 52nd minute, Messi skillfully placed the ball past Willis' outstretched hand and into the left corner of the goal, bringing Miami closer at 2-1.
