The Kansas City Chiefs said goodbye to a key member of their Super Bowl-winning defense this offseason, trading cornerback L'Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans. While the move allows the Chiefs to manage their salary cap, Coach Andy Reid expressed his deep respect for Sneed, both as a player and a person.

L'Jarius Sneed Chiefs: A Salary Cap Casualty

Throughout the 2023 season, L'Jarius Sneed was a vital cog in the Chiefs' defensive machine. Reid lauded Sneed's lockdown ability, highlighting how he routinely shadowed the opponent's top receiver. "[He is] our lockdown guy," Reid emphasized. "Every best receiver, he had the best receiver." Sneed's impressive performance on the field was only matched by his character off it.

"One of my all-time favorite guys," Reid declared when speaking about Sneed. He went on to praise Sneed's character, stating, "Great human being. As great a player as he is, he's an even better human being. As tough as you can imagine." Reid's sentiment resonated with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who also expressed his desire to keep L'Jarius Sneed on the Chiefs.

"I don't have any say in that," Mahomes admitted regarding the trade. "I think you'll hear from everybody on our team that we want Sneed." Mahomes further emphasized Sneed's dedication and positive influence, describing him as "one of those guys that's hungry every single day... He's not going to be the most vocal guy, not always yelling and screaming."

While L'Jarius Sneed will suit up for the Titans in 2024, his impact on the Kansas City Chiefs and Coach Reid will not be forgotten. His lockdown presence on the field and positive influence in the locker room solidify his place as a favorite amongst Chiefs fans and teammates alike.
