After leaving Roma as a coach Jose Mourinho has revealed that he would wish to coach Lionel Messi in some point of his career. Jose Mourinho is currently out of work after leaving Roma last month. He has coached Porto, Chelsea, Man United, Real Madrid and Roma, which has led him to intense speculation about his next move.
Influencer Ohm conducted a YouTube interview with the Portuguese manager, who shared some memories and tales from his time as a manager. He had managed some of the biggest names in football, including Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
He recently was asked on which player he would have liked to coach, and this was his response.
'An example is Messi, he doesn't need to be coached. Who can say "I was Messi's coach"?
'It seems absurd to me, because he knows everything and was born with everything. Maybe he can teach you things. It would only be to say that I had the honor of having him in the team. Then there are a lot of players.
'To stay on the subject of Roma, I would have liked De Rossi at Inter and Real Madrid, but it wasn't possible. I also wanted Totti at Inter, despite his age, and it wasn't possible. They're always players you want to coach in your career.'
The Argentinian Gerardo Martino is currently coaching Inter Miami in the MLS in which he took the role last in June last year. Although if Miami would like to switch it up Mourinho has previously expressed his interest in promoting the sport in the United States, so the pair could still team up.
"I see myself coaching a team, coaching the national team, or helping develop soccer in the U.S."
Mourinho stated in a 2011 interview. It's something I want to do when I'm sick of winning in Europe. Despite leading Roma to consecutive European finals, Mourinho was devastated by his dismissal as head coach and sent a harsh farewell note to the players, expressing that he felt "betrayed" by the way he was let go.
Il Messaggero claims that before leaving the Stadio Olimpico, Mourinho gave a ring that his players had given him after they won the Europa Conference League in 2022 back to captain Lorenzo Pellegrini's locker.
The 61-year-old is currently considering his choices for a new career, and while he has ruled out taking a position in Saudi Arabia right now, he is taking his time. Mail Sport revealed last month that Mourinho would like to return to Old Trafford because he feels he has "unfinished business" at Manchester United.
After Xavi declared his intention to leave at the end of the season, he was also connected to Barcelona, though Deco, the sporting director, downplayed it.
He also keeps up close ties to London, as seen by the fact that he lives there with his wife and kids, which has sparked speculation about a third Chelsea spell.
