In a recent interview with ESPN, LIV Golf signee Jon Rahm shed light on his decision to leave the PGA Tour and revealed the contrasting reactions he received from fellow golfers Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.

From PGA Tour to LIV Golf

Rahm, the reigning Masters champion, acknowledged informing both players of his choice beforehand. While McIlroy offered his support, both publicly and privately, Woods' response was different. "Did Tiger Woods support me? No, not really," Rahm admitted. "I texted him, and he seems too busy to talk."

Explaining his change of heart regarding LIV Golf, Rahm pointed to the potential collaboration between the PGA Tour and the Saudi-backed league. "When the two entities began discussing the possibility of working together, it opened my eyes," he stated. "Perhaps I hadn't been as open-minded as I should have been. As an athlete, I felt obligated to explore the other option."

Financial Allure and More Time

Rahm acknowledged the significant financial incentive offered by LIV Golf.

"While the PGA Tour has traditionally been the pinnacle of golf, there's a substantial shift in how golfers are now compensated," he said. "I'd be disingenuous if I said it wasn't a major factor in my decision. Ultimately, I'm getting paid to play the same sport while having more time at my disposal. That's a compelling proposition for many people, myself included."

Rahm's departure, along with other high-profile golfers, has sparked significant debate within the professional golf landscape. His insights into his decision and the changing dynamics of the sport offer valuable perspective to fans and industry stakeholders alike.
