Francesco Bagnaia, the reigning Ducati MotoGP champion, is gearing up for his second title defense in 2024. After breaking Ducati's 15-year championship drought in 2022 and successfully defending his crown in 2023, Bagnaia is a key figure in the upcoming season.
While his contract expires at the end of 2024, both Bagnaia and Ducati are eager to extend their successful partnership. Team manager Davide Tardozzi confirmed ongoing discussions with Bagnaia's manager and expressed their shared desire to finalize the deal soon.
"There is no deadline," Tardozzi stated, emphasizing that both parties are prioritizing the upcoming season. "Pecco is already focused on the 2024 MotoGP championship and seeing how the first race in Losail goes."
With only four riders contracted beyond 2024, Bagnaia's renewal holds significant weight for Ducati. The Italian manufacturer boasts a strong roster of contenders vying for a factory seat in 2025, including Enea Bastianini, Jorge Martin, Marco Bezzecchi, and Marc Marquez of the newly formed Gresini team.
Bastianini, who secured the factory seat over Martin in 2023, appears to have regained his form after a challenging season plagued by injuries. He will be alongside Bagnaia in the Ducati Lenovo Team for the 2024 season.
Meanwhile, all eyes are on Bagnaia as he embarks on his title defense journey. The season kicks off on March 10th in Qatar, and fans eagerly anticipate another thrilling chapter in Ducati MotoGP history.
