Dani Alves loses Barcelona legendary status

Barcelona is the first to react after Dani Alves being sentenced to four and a half years in prison for sexual assault, with removing his club legend status according to Diario AS. Barcelona have a 125 years history and have named 102 players as Club Legends, among them are : Messi, Busquets, Gamper  etc.. 

Barcelona has taken down Alves from their legends section on their website due to his recent legal issues. "Barca has made this symbolic act effective once the sentence for sexual assault has become final," the newspaper 'Sport' published.

Alves record at Barcelona 

Dani Alves played 408 games with Barcelona, winning three Champions Leagues, three European Super Cups, three Club World Cups, six LaLiga crowns, four Copa del Reys, and four Supercopa de Espanas. He is the second most successful player in history, with 43 titles, behind only Leo Messi.

While representing Brazil at the international level, the former fullback also had a successful career with Sevilla, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain. Mexican club PUMAS had Alves on their books in January 2023 until his arrest, at which point the club immediately terminated his contract.

What will happen with Dani Alves

As reported by The Guardian, Alves was facing a nine-year prison term from the prosecution and a twelve-year sentence from the victim's defense team. After serving twelve months on remand, Alves may soon be eligible for release on licence, as his ultimate sentence barely exceeded the mandatory minimum of four years.
