Brazilian football star Dani Alves was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a Barcelona nightclub. The Spanish court made the ruling on Thursday and sentenced Alves on 4 year and six months behind the bars.

Dani Alves, who is 40 years old, refuted any allegations of misconduct during a trial that spanned three days earlier this month.
An appeal can be made regarding the decision. The court determined that Alves sexually assaulted his victim in the early hours of Dec. 31, 2022, when she reported that he raped her in a bathroom of a high-end Barcelona nightclub.

The state prosecutors recommended a nine-year prison term for Alves, while the accuser's legal team pushed for 12 years. The defense requested his acquittal, or in case of conviction, a one-year sentence and 50,000 euros ($54,000) in compensation for the victim.

Alves has been incarcerated since being apprehended on Jan. 20, 2023. His bail requests were denied due to being deemed a flight risk by the court. In Brazil, its citizens are not extradited when they are convicted in other nations.
