McGregor's yearning for a return to the Octagon is no secret. After a devastating knockout loss to Dustin Poirier in their trilogy bout three years ago, the Irishman finds himself on the sidelines. UFC fans haven't seen Conor McGregor fight, and his recent pronouncements have been more about frustrations than fisticuffs.

Conor McGregor and Diaz Look Back at Historic Battles

However, a glimmer of a potential return emerged from an unexpected source: his fiery rival, Nate Diaz.

Diaz, a charismatic fighter in his own right, has a history with Conor  McGregor that transcends the cage. Their epic bad blood fueled two thrilling encounters. In March 2016, Diaz shocked the world by submitting the then-double champion Conor McGregor. The Irishman exacted revenge six months later with a narrow majority decision victory. These UFC battles were instant classics, leaving the score tied at 1-1.

Since then, their paths have diverged. McGregor's career has stalled, and his recent comments paint a picture of discouragement.

"They kept changing the fight date," McGregor lamented. "I lost interest and stopped training for a while. It's not typical for me, but I fell back into bad habits."

Despite the setbacks, Conor McGregor vows a comeback. "I'll get focused, disciplined, and ready," he declared. "When the fight date comes, I'll be prepared."

Diaz, surprisingly, offered words of support. "That was me before Conor," he said, referencing the pressure fighters face from the UFC. "Free Conor," he concluded, suggesting Conor  McGregor take control of his own destiny.

McGregor's response was short but telling: "Iconic rivalry must be resolved with a trilogy."

Will We See McGregor vs Diaz III?

This exchange reignited speculation about a McGregor vs. Diaz trilogy. It would be the next chapter in a legendary UFC feud, a clash between two fighters who pushed each other to the limit. Could this be the spark that reignites McGregor's fire and brings him back to the Octagon for a fight fans have been clamoring for? Only time will tell, but the UFC undoubtedly has its eyes peeled on this potential trilogy.
