Jan 24, 2024Author: Klei Hoxha

The Australian Open is in full swing, and the quarterfinals are set to be some of the most exciting matches of the tournament so far. In the men's draw, all of the top six seeds have made it to the last eight, but there have been some surprising upsets in the women's draw.

Men's Australian Open Quarterfinals: Djokovic, Alcaraz, Zverev, and Medvedev Remain

In the men's draw, 10-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic is still on track for another title. He will face No. 12 Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals. Djokovic has only dropped one set so far in the tournament, and he is looking like the favorite to win it all.

Another exciting matchup in the men's quarterfinals is between Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev. Alcaraz, the 20-year-old Wimbledon champion, is making his Australian Open debut this year. He has reached the quarterfinals without dropping a set, and he is looking to add another Grand Slam title to his collection. Zverev is a two-time Australian Open finalist, and he will be looking to get past Alcaraz and into the semifinals.

The other two quarterfinals in the men's draw feature No. 4 Jannik Sinner vs. No. 5 Andrey Rublev and No. 3 Daniil Medvedev vs. No. 9 Hubert Hurkacz. Sinner and Rublev are both young players who are looking to make their mark on the Grand Slam stage. Medvedev is a two-time Australian Open runner-up, and he will be looking to reach his first final at the tournament.

Women's Australian Open Quarterfinals: Upsets and New Faces Emerge

The women's draw at the Australian Open has been much more open than the men's draw. The highest-ranked player left in the top half of the bracket is No. 12-seeded Zheng Qinwen. Zheng will face No. 75-ranked Anna Kalinskaya in the quarterfinals.

The bottom half of the bracket is still home to three Grand Slam winners. No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka, the defending champion, will take on 2021 French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova. U.S. Open winner Coco Gauff will play Marta Kostyuk in the quarterfinals.

There have been some surprising upsets in the women's draw. No. 1 Iga Swiatek was knocked out in the third round by No. 50 Linda Noskova. Noskova will face No. 93 Dayana Yastremska in the quarterfinals.

Another player who has reached the quarterfinals for the first time is Kalinskaya. She beat No. 26 Jasmine Paolini in the fourth round.

The Australian Open quarterfinals are sure to be some of the most exciting matches of the tournament so far. With so many great players still in contention, it is impossible to say who will go on to win the title.
